Víkur Kennel - About us
Víkur Australian Shepherds is located in Mosfellsdalur, Reykjavík area. We are a young breeding in Iceland owning Australian Shepherds since 2011. We have 6 dogs living with us in our house. We are members of the Icelandic Kennel Club (HRFÍ) and all our dogs and litters are registered with them and FCI.
Maríanna Gunnarsdóttir and Ólafur Örn Ólafsson are the people behind Víkur Australian Shepherds. We have both had dogs over the years but we fell in love with each other and Aussies in 2010 and then there was no turning back. Horses have also played a big part in both of our lives since we were kids and we have both been breeding the Icelandic horse for many years. Now we are breeding both horses and dogs and breeding both those species fits well together in our opinion. So much to be learned from both cultures.
Our goal in breeding is to breed better and better dogs by every litter. That the dogs are healthy, beautiful, of high quality and with great temperament and character. One of our main focus is that our dogs are great family dogs. We have few litters and we try to have high quality in every litter to magnify the best qualities in each individual every time. One of our main goals is to get new individuals to improve the quality and we take few but quality litters from each female. We take great pride in finding the right individual to be paired with each time, both genetic and morphology, as well as having great temperament. We also think it is important to diversify the gene puddle species to avoid too much inbreeding. Therefore you will see few litters from us but feel free to contact us for further information on the proposed timing of litter.
Despite being a young kennel we have bred 3 out of 4 International Champions that have been bred here in Iceland. Marley is the first Australian Shepherd male bred in Iceland to become an International Champion and Izzy the second female. Now we own the highest number of International Champions bred in Iceland and are very proud of that.
Our first bred litter was born in 2012 and since 2013 we have bred or owned Top Australian Shepherd her in Iceland.
